Cristina Iturrioz Nicolás, born in Pamplona, developed a love of materials, textures and pigments at a very early age. A multifaceted and multi-talented artist, she started out with drawing and design but gradually expanded her field of interest to include painting, reliefs, mural art, sculpture, photography, advertising and other media. She took a number of art and photography courses, but she considers herself an essentially self-taught artist. Her practice is based on long hours of work and investigation in the studio, of manipulating and experimenting with materials to achieve textures. She has taken Cézanne's

advice to heart: Look carefully at a work, take two steps back and look again. Cristina Iturrioz knows that artifice ultimately leads to verisimilitude.
