Patrick Rubinstein

Patrick Rubinstein was born in Paris in the 1960s. He grew up with a cinema-loving mother and an avant-garde, multi-talented father. It was his father who introduced him to the principle of kinetism, by explaining how to create a kinetic portrait with two photos by cutting them into strips and gluing them to a pyramid-shaped support. «If you fold a photo neatly, along parallel lines, you will get an interesting visual effect depending on whether you look at it from the right or the left. This is how the artist’s first artwork was created in 1977, when he was only 17 years old .

«If I hadn’t encountered kinetic art as a child, nothing would have happened. There are often reasons for things».

\- Patrick Rubinstein

After his first kinetic experiments, he joined the family business where he discovered the world of fashion and developed a creative spirit. In love with colours, textures, movements, shapes and materials, he constantly creates in an industry in perpetual renewal. This experience was the gateway to Op Art and it is clear that it will nourish his future work as an artist throughout the years .

«Fashion has been for me a source of inspiration and permanent curiosity. It has served

me to this day in my creations».

\- Patrick Rubinstein

It was only when his father died that he remembered that as a child he had introduced him to the principle of kinetism. He takes a photo, folds it and explains to his daughters the visual game thus created. The memories come back. He then took a decision that would radically change his life: to devote himself fully to the creation of kinetic works. Art waits no more !

«It was at this point that I decided to develop a concept that took up this technique, but this time not portraits, but figurative paintings whose universe inspired me».

Patrick Rubinstein

From then on, this kinetic principle fired his imagination !

His audacity was crowned with success, he unveiled his first creations in a Parisian gallery in 2007. Today they are exhibited in museums and in more than 100 galleries around the world. With his three-view paintings, he offers the viewer a unique visual experience. Through them, by the viewer’s relationship to art changes as he turns into an actor through his movement !

Patrick Rubinstein belongs to the Op Art and Kinetic Art movement. He is the inventor of the Kinetic Op Art movement, combining the technical principles of optical arts with the theme of figuration in art. The success of this concept often overshadows the diversity of his work, which ranges from colourful figuration to geometric and poetic abstraction .

«I have staged a cinematographic and musical universe with the same technique without locking myself into a single universe. I make my art evolve according to my desires and the era of time».

\- Patrick Rubinstein

He creates according to his desires and forbids himself nothing. He explores the colourful aesthetics of Pop Art, the strange

poetry of Surrealism and geometric abstraction. He is a protean and prolific artist. His multiple works reveal the complexity

and versatility of his work, whose common point is always kinetism .

They reflect an abundant nature, an unfailing optimism. «Hope», «Love», «All you need is love» are messages with incantatory power, slogans that slam home and constantly remind us of the essential : cultivate hope. He draws life, words and images that run through his head and heart. The result: a huge dose of humanity, joy and sincerity that make the colours sing .
